Morning Coffee – When a Problem is a Blessing

Breakfast burrito og kaffeSince this has happened twice in the past week or so, I felt it was worthy of at least a cup of coffee.

I recently had an opportunity to move to a wonderful small town in Nebraska. The house I moved into came with some problems, however, and I have spent the past month addressing them. One of the challenges is the landlady who lives in Colorado, but her kind-hearted brother and his wife live here in town. Guess who helped address some of the most critical issues with the property? Yep. The sweet couple who live down the block.

So why did I end up with such a challenging landlord? It requires me to dust off the legal side of myself and start a detailed file on this situation, because I have the feeling this is the type of person who will keep the security deposit whether she’s entitled to it or not.

I was talking with the couple who had helped me the other day, and when I said that sometimes God will put you in a difficult situation because that is what is necessary to get you where you need to end up, I noticed it kind of resonated in a special kind of way, almost as if I were speaking a truth I really needed to pay attention to. I did tell the brother’s wife that I saw the situation as a kind of blessing because taking this place led me to them.

They also have rentals in this town, you see, but they actually keep them up. They shower them with love and tender care. So now I will pray that one of their properties comes open in the next six months. For now, I need to gather myself and rest a bit, but I’m definitely leaving most of my boxes packed!

This house and the landlady are a huge problem, but it is the hand I’ve been dealt for now, and except for the challenging dance I will have to do for the next few months, I am enjoying the energy here. The peace, and the quiet are nurturing my spirit.

As I struggle to get the house into a marginally livable condition  as it wasn’t cleaned before I moved in and the carpet was filthy, the landlady – eager to get some work done for free, now I can see – offered to allow me to borrow a carpet cleaning machine her son could drop off. (The house had been smoked in too, despite the assertion by the owner that all was move-in ready. But what the heck, she lives in Colorado!)

He left me the machine and I started to use it to clean the stained, filthy carpets which I was told had already been cleaned twice with this very machine. After the second or third tank of water, the spraying function on the machine quit. Oh, crap. This lady is the kind that will sue for a new machine, I just know it.

So, to the phone book I went. If there were repairs to do, then I’m going to be the one to get it done, so I know what the actual cost is. I found two places in the nearest larger town, and called the first one. He said he could accept it in for repairs, but that he would have to send it out, and that could take a week or so. I was relieved that it could be repaired, at least. I have a feeling that the heavy dirt clogged the line where the water comes out, but when I looked at the machine, I could not see how I could unclog it. Besides it’s not my machine, otherwise I would probably have tried to fix it myself.

When I started to get the very faint, subtle sense that I am now beginning to recognize as my  upgraded “follow” signal, I paid attention to it. I had the hit to call the manufacturers direct customer service line, so I did. I got the same two places from them. After I hung up from that conversation, I called the other number just to make sure my bases were properly covered.

This fellow could look at the machine as well, and could take it in for repair without sending it out. I got that faint signal again, so I followed it. I put the machine in the car and drove to the larger town. I explained what had happened, and he said he’d let me know what it would cost – and laughed that it would certainly be less than the cost of a new machine! (I’d told him what I figured would happen if I didn’t get it fixed before I returned it.)

Turns out, this is the guy the first shop sends their stuff out to be fixed!

I expressed how grateful I was that he could fix it, and that this seemed to be a signal that my challenging times were coming to an end and that it had been a tough year for me. He said it had been for him, as well. He’d lost his wife a year ago, and his daughter is now going through a divorce.

Note to self, here: no matter how hard your life is, someone else certainly has it rougher.

I can’t explain exactly how it happened, but we were soon in a conversation the depth of which one normally doesn’t have with, well, basically a stranger. The details of that conversation don’t need to be shared here – this morning coffee is already too long – but it only ended when the mail man came in the store to deliver the mail.

As I left that shop, I knew that one of the reasons I needed to follow the signals I was getting from my guides, from my guidance, was so I could end up standing in front of that man and having that conversation.

Two “problems”. Two blessings. Where either situation will end up, well, only time will tell. For now, I choose to count my blessings, and to give thanks for the honor of being able to be a blessing to someone else, as well. Have a glorious day. I know I will.

Morning Coffee – Who Knows…

Coffee C0531I chose this image because of its beauty, its simplicity. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about where I am spending my time, and what I am not able to do because of the things I have chosen to give my life to.

I am feeling a strange calling to be more connected to the world around me, and to be creating things of substance that I can hold in my hand and point to.

Now here is the conundrum with which I wrestle: I do enjoy writing. Writing here has brought me a level of satisfaction I’ve not experienced with my writing to this point. But I cannot see what it is I am producing, and maybe that is what is bothering me about it.

The other thing I’ve noticed is – for the most part – I feel like I am talking to myself. Hell, I can do that without having to spend hours in cyberspace. I am feeling the urge to unplug myself. If it continues to build, I may need to do that. For now, I will continue to post here if I am moved to.

I will continue to ask Spirit to show me what it is I am to do with this, and how I am to move forward from here. Well, that is the end of this quick cup today. I do feel I should leave you with a bit of inspiration as that is the reason I started this project in the first place, so here it is:

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray. ~Rumi

April 2013 Energy Report

English: Total Lunar eclipse 15 June 2011 in i...The energy of April is all about potential.  This is how I choose to look at the energy of change that is building for the next Uranus square Pluto event on May 21.

What you choose to align with will manifest for you.  The energy of change may take you far outside your comfort zone and drag you so far beyond what you thought your limits were that you find yourself standing smack in the middle of the unknown. Stay centered in what you intend for yourself and watch the world form itself around you in accordance with your intent.  Trust.  Have faith.

The new Moon on April 10 will bring relationship issues to the forefront.  This includes the relationship you have with yourself.  Do you love, value, honor, respect yourself?  Watch for the answer to be reflected back to you through the people in your life this month.  Don’t take it personally.  Use these experiences to adjust your inner compass.

April 12th marks the beginning of a five month Pluto retrograde cycle.  This is a time for looking at our hidden fears and how we use our personal power.

We can also use this retrograde cycle to gain insight and greater awareness about our life purpose.  Ask the question “What am I here to do?” and expect an answer.

April’s energy is building towards the next exact Uranus square Pluto in May. If you’re not feeling the effects of this aspect yet, you will.  There will continue to be personal and collective shifts precipitated by this influence.

I remind you that the themes for the years 2012 to 2015 are destruction and rebirth.  This process of tearing down to the foundation of things is necessary in order to manifest the new vision, the new reality.  Our lessons with this energy are: patience, resilience, and surrender to what is in order to go with the flow in each moment.

I call this the time of the chrysalis.  All that was is no more.  When the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, its entire body liquefies and then rearranges itself. I believe we are in the midst of a similar process.  I remind myself when things get particularly difficult that I really want to earn my wings.

The full Moon this month brings an eclipse that invites you to take action but in a more cautious, thoughtful way. It is especially potent as it aligns with Mars, Venus, and Saturn.  The eclipse is in Scorpio so that means we have an opportunity to release the old and outworn, including any patterns of behavior that no longer serve us.  The influence of Saturn reminds us of the importance of keeping our commitments to ourselves and others.

There is a great mandate for change this month that is upon us individually and collectively. I would just say to all who are in the midst of it to remember to stay centered. It is a process, so remain flexible. Things can shift on a dime these days. If your direction isn’t clear at this time, ask that it be made so. Do what you know will move you towards your goal, and trust that the next thing to do will become apparent when the timing is right.

Let him who would move the world first move himself. ~Socrates

Spring and Herbs, they Go Together!

English: Indian spice

Here’s another introductory post that will broaden your herbal horizons. Most of us are familiar with culinary herbs, but few of us realize that many of those culinary herbs have powerful healing properties as well.

Spring is the perfect season to start (or renew) your relationship with the healing aspects of herbs.

This article will take a brief look at the big four made famous in a song by Simon and Garfunkel in the song off their album “Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme”: Are you going to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme…

Parsley: Parsley is rich in nutrients and contains significant amounts of vitamins C, A, K and folate. It contains luteolin which is a strong anti-inflammatory ingredient. Parsley also contains myristicin, which neutralizes the benzopyrenes from cigarette smoke and helps the antioxidant glutathione function better in the body. Adding fresh parsley to a soup or stew can enrich the taste of the food.

Sage: Sage has been found to help protect the again brain against the loss of mental function that sometimes comes with age. Some say that sage increases the delivery of oxygen to the cerebral cortex region of the brain to help increase concentration. Excellent when added to soups and poultry dishes.

Sage is arguably one of the most versatile of the culinary herbs when it comes to healing properties. Oil of sage contains the compound thujone which is an effective anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory ONE CAUTION WITH SAGE: If you have a seizure disorder, high blood pressure or kidney disease, sage should not be ingested in large doses.

Sage tea may have beneficial effects for those challenged with high blood sugar levels.

Sage has also been said to increase the flow of bile and help with liver detoxification.

Rosemary:  Rosemary contains an oil that helps to stimulate brain activity and increase brain alertness.  Rosemary also help energize your immune system. It can be steeped as a tea, or you can just use it to season your poultry dishes and soups.

If you crush some rosemary you can fill your space with an energizing scent. As you inhale the aroma, know that it is helping you to be more alert than if you drank another cup of harsh, adrenal gland smashing coffee.

Thyme: This is one of the first herbs that was used as an incense. In the Middle Ages, it was often mixed with equal parts of lavender and sprinkled on the floors of churches to help alleviate the odors that would be exacerbated by the large concentration of unwashed people together in a confined space.

Thyme has been recommended for intestinal worms, bronchial problems, diarrhea, and as a skin cleanser. It is known for its anti-fungal properties, and is used to treat athletes foot, colic, excess gas, and sore throats. As a poultice, it has been used on skin inflammation and to soothe sores.

Burning thyme repels insects and it also makes an excellent disinfectant, nervine, expectorant, sedative, stimulant, or an antiseptic.

Any of these herbs are relatively easy to grow in your home garden, and information on their care and tending is readily available. Try adding a few herbals to your garden this year! For your health and continued well-being.

The first supermarket supposedly appeared on the American landscape in 1946. That is not very long ago. Until then, where was all the food? Dear folks, the food was in homes, gardens, local fields and forests. It was near kitchens, near tables, near bedsides. It was in the pantry, the cellar, the backyard. ~Joel Salatin (from Folks, This Ain’t Normal: A Farmer’s Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World)
